Raising awareness of breast cancer and screening
We are working with Social Enterprise Kent (SEK) to raise awareness of breast cancer and screening focusing on women from black and ethnic diverse groups.
Research has shown that women from these groups are more likely to be diagnosed at a later stage when there are less treatment options.
72 per cent of Black women are diagnosed with breast cancer at an early stage, compared with 85 per cent of White women
The SEK programme work focusses on how to spot the early signs and what to do next, along with the importance of attending breast screening when women have been invited to attend.
Barriers that prevent people from receiving preventative care and cancer treatment can include anxiety and fear, lack of understanding of what is involved.
